Tax time is here!

Tax time is here!

Happy New Year!

We hope you have had a wonderful year!  You may not want to think about it yet, but tax filing time is just around the corner!  This will be another interesting year as we tackle the next round of changes in health care reporting and other tax related issues. We will keep you up on the latest in tax laws and changes as we receive them.

NEW THIS YEAR we have converted all of our worksheets and forms to a pdf fill-in format.  You can even submit them directly to us from our website on the Resources page at https://www.setcpa.com/resources.php  You can also still download the forms, if needed.  Please be sure to complete your Tax QuestionnaireEngagement Letter and other worksheets.  The Tax Questionnaire is our way to make sure you don’t miss any deductions or benefits to you.

Make sure you provide your health care statement, Form 1095, with your documents this year. Please note you may receive a 1095-A, 1095-B, and/or 1095-C.  Please provide all of them to us.  These are needed to determine if you are liable for any health care penalties.

We also have two really good reasons for you to gather your tax records now and file early this year!

  1. There is a growing threat of identity theft involving tax returns. When someone files a return in your name with your identity, it can take two years for the IRS to get to the bottom of it. You can imagine the mess that it creates with your finances.  The best defense is a good offense. File your return as early as you can and beat identity thieves. Once your return is filed, any additional return filed in your name will be stopped in its tracks.
  2. Our fees will increase April 1, 2016.

In order to obtain the details of the earnings posted to your Social Security account, once you register at www.ssa.gov, you can print out your statement.  Please include it with your tax information so we can review it to be sure all of your earnings have been posted.

Last but not least, please call the office to schedule your appointment or to make arrangements to drop off your records. The earlier, the better!

We look forward to seeing you and hope you have a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe holiday season! We appreciate all the referrals you have given us in the past, and we hope you will continue to recommend us to your family and friends. Thank you for your continued confidence in us.
